Rocky Beginnings: Trailblazers of the West
"A fresh start shaped a nation"
Synopsis:
Going back to 1859, Rocky Beginnings will accompany Edward Steele's on his journey westward to Boulder, Colorado.
Like many early American Pioneers, Edward Steele moved across rough and unfriendly terrain to settle in the Rocky Mountain region. Along the way, Steele chronicled his encounters with Native Americans, African-Americans, and entrepreneurial women. Rocky Beginnings follows Steele’s American journey — exposing many lost voices and perspectives along the way. The voices of these individuals will reinvigorate our conversation about westward expansion and the central role that our collective concept of mobility played in defining the American identity.
Overview:
Rocky Beginnings aims to achieve the following:
- Celebrate America's westward movement and Western heritage
- Restore the missing voices involved in America's westward expansion
- Start larger conversations about the development of the American identity
